Some weddings are built around details. Others are built around a place — and the memories already tied to it. Tristan and Hillary’s Maine lake wedding felt like the second kind, where everything about the day traced back to where they grew up and the life they’ve built together over time.
Set on the edge of a quiet lake at Beaver Lodge, their celebration felt grounded, familiar, and deeply personal from the very beginning.
A Maine Lake Wedding Rooted in Home
For Tristan and Hillary, choosing a venue felt simple. They both grew up in the same hometown area, so celebrating close to home just made sense. More importantly, they wanted a place that reflected their shared love for the Maine outdoors.
Beaver Lodge offered exactly that. It felt rustic, familiar, and deeply personal. Both of them had spent time there growing up, which made the space feel even more meaningful. Because of that connection, their wedding didn’t feel placed into a setting. Instead, it felt like it naturally belonged.
A Thoughtful, Low-Key Approach to Wedding Planning
From the beginning, they approached planning as a team. They spent evenings scrolling Pinterest together, saving ideas that matched their style. Then, they focused on keeping things simple and intentional.
They chose a more DIY approach, which helped everything feel manageable. At the same time, they worked with local vendors they already trusted. As a result, many decisions came together easily.
However, finding the right photographer took more time. They considered nearly twenty options before making a decision. Once they found Antoinette Photography, though, everything clicked into place.
A Relaxed, Autumn-Inspired Wedding Day
When the wedding day arrived, everything felt calm and natural. They had envisioned a relaxed fall celebration, and that vision came to life beautifully. Soft autumn tones blended into the landscape, while the crisp air added a subtle seasonal touch.
More importantly, the entire day felt easy. Guests settled in quickly and enjoyed the food, music, and time together. Meanwhile, their wedding party and family stepped in wherever needed. Because of that support, the day flowed smoothly without feeling rushed or overwhelming.
A Quiet Escape to the Blueberry Fields
In the middle of the day, they stepped away together. It wasn’t planned, but it became one of their favorite moments.
They visited a nearby blueberry field for photos, which gave them a chance to slow down and breathe. For the first time that day, they were alone together. At the same time, the sunlight created something unforgettable. It brought out deep reds in the field and added a warmth that made the moment feel almost surreal.
Because of that, this quiet pause became one of the most meaningful parts of their wedding.
A Love Story That Found Its Way Back
Their story began in high school. They started dating young, but life eventually took them in different directions. Tristan went to New York for college, while Hillary stayed in Maine.
However, that distance didn’t last forever. After one year, Tristan transferred back to the University of Maine. From that point on, they built their relationship side by side.
Even later, during medical school, they spent years apart again. Still, their relationship continued to grow stronger. Through every season, they kept finding their way back to each other.
A Proposal That Didn’t Go According to Plan — and Was Perfect Anyway
Tristan had carefully planned the proposal. He wanted to ask Hillary to marry him during a camping trip at Moosehead Lake. Unfortunately, heavy rain washed out the access roads.
Because of that, every planned location became unreachable. One by one, his ideas fell apart. Eventually, they stopped at a quiet waterfront spot — the only option left.
In that moment, he let go of the plan. Instead, he asked her right there. Without the setup, the moment felt even more real. It was simple, emotional, and completely theirs.
A Wedding Day That Felt Exactly Right
Looking back, their wedding day felt full of emotion. They felt nervous, excited, and overwhelmingly happy all at once. Even though not everything went perfectly, none of that mattered.
What mattered most was being surrounded by their favorite people. They celebrated in a place they loved, and they stepped into this new chapter together.
In the end, the day felt exactly as it should — relaxed, meaningful, and full of joy.
