A Coastal Micro Wedding That Felt Instantly Right
Wedding planning didn’t start out simple. Like many couples, Sarah and Brendan found themselves navigating opinions, unknowns, and all the noise that can come with planning a wedding. At times, it felt overwhelming. However, through it all, they kept coming back to what felt right for them.
Choosing a micro wedding changed everything. With around 30 guests, the day immediately felt more manageable and more personal. Even more importantly, it allowed them to focus on the experience rather than the expectations.
That clarity became even stronger when they found their ceremony location. Instead of a traditional venue, they chose Sarah’s best friend’s family home on the North Shore. Set right on the water, the space felt intimate, meaningful, and completely aligned with their vision. From the moment they asked to use the property, everything seemed to fall into place.
A Ceremony by the Water and a Moody Salem Reception
The setting naturally shaped the overall design of the day. For the ceremony, the ocean became the backdrop, so they leaned into soft blue tones that reflected the coastal surroundings. The result felt effortless and cohesive without being overly styled.
Later, the celebration shifted to The Ledger in Salem, Massachusetts. The contrast was striking in the best way. While the ceremony felt light and airy, the reception brought in a moodier, more dramatic atmosphere. Set inside a historic bank, the space featured rich textures and warm tones, which they complemented with subtle gold accents.
Together, the two locations created a wedding day that felt layered and intentional, yet still relaxed.
A Planning Process That Found Its Rhythm
Although the beginning felt uncertain, everything started to click in the final months leading up to the wedding. That stretch was the most intense, but it was also when they made their best decisions.
Throughout the process, both of their moms played a huge role. They were constant sources of support, whether it was talking through ideas or simply being there during the more overwhelming moments. Because of that, the experience never felt like something they had to carry alone.
As they moved forward, they focused less on outside opinions and more on what actually mattered to them. That shift made all the difference.
A Quiet Moment in the Middle of the Day
One of their favorite memories wasn’t part of the ceremony or reception at all. Instead, it happened in between.
After the ceremony, they took an Uber together to their reception in Salem. Since they hadn’t seen each other before the ceremony, this became their first real moment alone that day. It gave them a chance to slow down, reflect, and simply be together.
In many ways, it was one of the most meaningful parts of the entire experience.
A Love Story That Started with a Swipe
Their story began in a way that feels very modern. They met on Bumble and quickly realized there was something different about their connection. After a first date at Night Shift Brewery and a second at a comedy show, it became clear they had found something special.
The proposal followed that same theme of flexibility and intention. Brendan had originally planned to propose on a hiking trail near their home. However, when Sarah got sick that week, those plans had to change.
Instead of waiting, he pivoted. He proposed in their kitchen — simple, private, and completely unexpected. Afterward, they walked to their favorite restaurant and kept the moment just between them for a little while before sharing the news with family.
In the end, it felt even more meaningful because of its simplicity.
A Wedding Day That Felt Personal in Every Way
Looking back, what stands out most isn’t just how the day looked, but how it felt. By keeping their guest list small, Sarah and Brendan were able to spend real, meaningful time with every person there.
The day felt relaxed, emotional, and full of connection. It gave them space to be present, to soak in each moment, and to truly experience their wedding instead of rushing through it.
More than anything, they felt surrounded by love, and that’s what made it unforgettable.
