This creative wedding celebration at The Thompson Inn & Cyderhouse was the perfect blend of heartfelt DIY projects, unforgettable surprises, and a deep appreciation for family and friends. Katie’s eye for design and Nathaniel’s unwavering support made the day both meaningful and uniquely theirs, creating a celebration that will be remembered for years to come.
A Creative Wedding Celebration at The Thompson Inn
For Katie and Nathaniel, finding the right venue was one of the most exciting parts of wedding planning. They toured The Thompson Inn first, drawn by its gorgeous grounds, timeless architecture, and on-site accommodations.
“Even though we looked at a few other places, we kept comparing everything to The Thompson Inn,” Katie says. “It was clear we’d found our perfect match.”
To make venue visits even more memorable, Katie and Nathaniel turned them into family outings. “Our parents adore each other,” Katie shares. “We’d tour a venue, then head to lunch or dinner together to debrief. It made the process so much fun!”
Personal Touches That Made This Creative Wedding Unique
As a graphic designer, Katie saw wedding planning as a creative playground. She poured her heart into designing everything from the save-the-dates and invitations to Mayfair wands for the ceremony.
Her most ambitious project? A hand-cut, hand-dyed, and hand-strung wisteria installation made entirely from egg cartons. “It was a labor of love,” Katie says. “Nathaniel helped by ripping up cartons and stringing them together. I’m thrilled with how it turned out—but now I need to figure out what to do with it!”
The couple’s thoughtful details didn’t stop at decor. They incorporated elements of their Italian and Scottish heritage into the day, from thistles in the floral arrangements to tiramisu on the dessert table. Their guest book—a ceramic platter made by a local artisan—now serves as a daily reminder of the loved ones who celebrated with them.
A Day Full of Surprises
While Katie’s meticulous planning meant there were few surprises for her, one unexpected moment stole the show: the arrival of Peaches, a miniature highland cow.
“I love highland cows,” Katie gushes. “Lauren, our venue coordinator, knew this and surprised me with Peaches on the wedding day. I was speechless—and squealing with joy!”
Even Nathaniel was caught off guard. “When the photographer mentioned Katie would be getting photos with a cow, my groomsmen and I were floored. Seeing her reaction made it even better,” he says.
Unforgettable Moments
For Katie, the day was filled with highlights: her mom’s heartfelt speech, her nephews walking down the aisle, and locking eyes with Nathaniel as she made her way to him.
For Nathaniel, the day felt surreal. “It was like all the planning and effort culminated in this incredible 12-hour celebration,” he shares. “I bounced between moments of joyous laughter and quiet reflection, thinking, ‘Wow, this is really happening.’”
