Alex and Emma’s engagement session at Kettle Cove in Maine was a perfect reflection of their love, shared appreciation for the ocean, and the exciting journey ahead. With their wedding on the horizon, their photos radiate the joy and deep connection they share. Captured by Kate Michaud Photography, this session was as heartfelt as their love story.
A love story built on bold choices
Alex and Emma first met at Simmons College in Boston, but it wasn’t until after graduation that their paths truly intertwined. The pandemic became an unexpected catalyst for their relationship, leading them to make a bold decision—quarantining together.
During that time, they exchanged passions for football and photography while navigating their new virtual lives. Taking that leap of faith brought them closer than they ever could have imagined. Since then, their journey has included career changes, starting a business, adopting their pups Stella and Luna, and buying a home together on the South Shore of Massachusetts—a place that keeps them close to the water they both love.
A surprise-filled engagement
Their engagement was as thoughtful and intimate as their relationship. Knowing Emma wanted something candid, Alex proposed at home with a small celebration planned afterward with Emma’s sisters and close friends.
What Alex didn’t know was that Emma also had a ring waiting for the perfect moment. The timing worked out perfectly, allowing them to celebrate their engagement as a couple. A surprise dinner turned into an even bigger celebration when more friends and family arrived to join in, making the moment even more special.
Why they chose an engagement session at Kettle Cove in Maine
When deciding on a location for their engagement session, Alex and Emma knew they wanted a setting that reflected their shared connection to the water. Alex grew up on the Jersey Shore, and Emma spent her childhood by the coast in Rhode Island, making Kettle Cove in Maine the perfect backdrop.
Their photographer, Kate Michaud, was an obvious choice—not only because of her stunning portfolio but because of her personal connection to Emma. Kate was Emma’s RA during her freshman year of college and the first person Emma came out to. Having Kate document this milestone in their lives made the session even more meaningful.
A wedding at the Barnegat Lighthouse
Alex and Emma will tie the knot in September 2024 at the Barnegat Lighthouse on Long Beach Island, New Jersey, followed by a reception at the Captain’s Inn—a cherished family restaurant owned by Alex’s parents. The Captain’s Inn has been part of Alex’s life since childhood, first owned by her grandparents, and has become a special place for the couple. Emma even worked there during long weekends and holidays, making it a fitting location for their celebration.
Their wedding day will be filled with laughter, dancing, and incredible food, but for now, their engagement session at Kettle Cove in Maine captures the beginning of this exciting new chapter.
