Colorful and Joyful O’Maine Studios Wedding in Portland, Maine

Sarah and Trey’s O’Maine Studios wedding in Portland, Maine, was a lively and heartfelt celebration that perfectly reflected their love for the city and the people closest to them. From a Parisian proposal to a wedding weekend packed with thoughtful details, their journey to “I do” was nothing short of magical.

From a Christmas Bar Crawl to a Parisian Proposal

Sarah and Trey’s love story began in December 2015 at a Christmas-themed bar crawl in Chicago. “I was dressed as Cupid the Reindeer, and Trey wore a Drake Hotline Bling sweater,” Sarah laughed. They hit it off immediately, but with Trey living in Texas and Sarah in Indiana, they navigated a year and a half of long-distance dating before moving to Cambridge together in 2017.

Fast forward to March 5, 2022, and their proposal in Paris felt like something out of a dream.

“We’d had an amazing weekend exploring the city, eating incredible food, and visiting the sights. In the gardens of the Rodin Museum, as church bells tolled, Trey got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. He was so nervous, which made me laugh since we’d been together for six years and even designed the ring together! It was beautiful and perfect, and it still brings tears to my eyes.”

Falling in Love with Portland, Maine

When it came to choosing a wedding location, Portland, Maine, was the obvious choice.

“In 2017, we couldn’t make it home for Thanksgiving, so we took a road trip to Portland. We fell in love with the amazing food, quirky cocktail bars, breweries, and friendly people. It became our go-to getaway and holds so many fun memories for us.”

They kicked off their wedding weekend with a welcome event at Bramhall, one of their favorite local bars. “The team there was fantastic, keeping food and drinks flowing. Everyone raved about how fun and unique the venue was—it set the tone for the weekend perfectly.”

A Colorful and Floral-Filled O’Maine Studios Wedding

On the big day, Sarah and Trey focused on making meaningful moments together.

“Trey’s favorite memory was our first look, where we read private vows to each other. It was intimate and special to have that time together before the whirlwind began. For me, it was the morning spent getting ready at the Francis Fassett House with our wedding party. The house was stunning, and it was so fun to mix our friends and families while sharing music, drinks, and laughs.”

They embraced a festive, floral, and fun aesthetic, featuring a bold color palette of lavender, evergreen, and orange. O’Maine Studios’ industrial yet welcoming atmosphere was the perfect backdrop for their vision.

“We wanted the day to reflect who we are and to show our guests how much they mean to us. From the oyster bar and lobster rolls during cocktail hour to an amazing dinner by Fire & Co., we pulled out all the stops to thank everyone for flying in to celebrate with us.”

Wedding Planning Advice from Sarah and Trey

After planning their wedding for a year and a half, Sarah and Trey had two key pieces of advice:

  • Hire a planner if possible. “Margie from Dirigo Event Co. was our saving grace, helping us stay focused and organized while bringing our vision to life.”
  • Make it personal. “Couples can get so caught up in creating a ‘classic’ or ‘timeless’ aesthetic that they lose the things that make them unique. Your friends and family love you for who you are—let your wedding reflect that.”

Looking Back on Their O’Maine Studios Wedding

For Sarah and Trey, seeing everything come together was surreal.

“It was so special to share the day with our people and watch our friends interact, laugh, and enjoy themselves. We felt so loved and so grateful. It was everything we dreamed of and more.”
