Amanda and Mike’s Scotland Fields wedding was a perfect mix of sentimentality and thoughtful planning. Set against the beautiful backdrop of York, Maine, this summer celebration was filled with love, laughter, and a little bit of sunshine after the rain. Captured beautifully by Brea McDonald Photography, their wedding reflected both their personalities and their deep appreciation for the people who came to celebrate with them.
A Love Story That Began With Pizza and a Sunset
Amanda and Mike’s relationship started with a modern twist—they met on Hinge.
“Mike was Amanda’s first (and last) dating app date. For Mike, Amanda wasn’t the first—but she was definitely the last!”
Amanda & Mike’s first date was spent on Mike’s tiny South Boston roof deck, sharing wine and watching the sunset. They had planned to go to dinner, but instead, they stayed in and ate the only thing in Mike’s fridge: two pieces of leftover pizza.
Three years later, Mike proposed at sunset on their new roof deck (still tiny), with wine and fresh pizza instead of leftovers.
Choosing the Perfect Venue for Their Scotland Fields Wedding
Finding the right venue was an adventure. Amanda and Mike wanted something that felt quintessentially New England, but also had the wide-open spaces that reminded Amanda of her Oregon roots.
“We made a spreadsheet of nearly 70 venues, but Scotland Fields was the first and only tour we needed. Even with a foot of snow on the ground, we could already picture how beautiful it would be in July.”
Nestled in York, Maine, Scotland Fields offered them the perfect mix of charm, nature, and breathtaking scenery for their summer wedding.
A First Look to Remember
Their wedding day started with a quiet, unforgettable moment for their first look before the whirlwind of celebration began.
“We had our first look in the old bungalow at the venue—no photographers, no family, just us. We met on the stairs, practiced a little first dance in the living room, and asked each other, ‘Are you ready to get married?!’”
As they stepped outside onto the porch, the rain stopped and the sun came out—a perfect sign of the beautiful day ahead.
A Wedding Focused on Comfort, Connection, and Stunning Florals
Amanda and Mike kept their wedding aesthetic simple and natural, allowing the beauty of the venue to shine.
- Focusing on the guest experience, making guests feel comfortable and celebrated, rather than a rigid wedding theme.
- The wedding decor was kept neutral, allowing the stunning floral arrangements from Broadturn Farm to provide all the color.
- Their planner, Cassie, helped them embrace their rain plan, ensuring the day felt seamless no matter what the weather brought.
“When Amanda’s coworker in Europe sent a message saying mariage pluvieux, mariage heureux (rainy marriage, happy marriage), it shifted our perspective. By the time the weekend arrived, we weren’t stressed. And in the end, we got sunshine and even a rainbow!”
Wedding Planning Advice from Amanda and Mike
After months of planning, Amanda and Mike had some wisdom to share with engaged couples:
Don’t stress over every detail. “Your guests aren’t noticing every tiny thing like you are. Prioritize what matters most and let the little things go.”
Plan things together. “Mike swore he didn’t care about flowers, but once Amanda showed him examples, he had lots of opinions. It ended up being a really fun memory from planning.”
Focus on what makes you happy. “A wedding is about celebrating your love and commitment, not about creating the most Instagram-worthy event.”
A Scotland Fields Wedding Filled With Gratitude and Joy
This Scotland Fields wedding was filled with love, energy, and heartfelt moments. But what stood out most to Amanda and Mike was being surrounded by their favorite people.
“We were so touched that so many of our loved ones traveled to celebrate with us. Seeing everyone together, laughing and dancing, was amazing. We were overwhelmed with gratitude—and just so giddy and excited to be married!”
