Olivia and Cameron’s Caswell Farm wedding in Maine was nothing short of magical. With a Tolkien-inspired theme, a hurricane near-miss, and countless personal touches, their day felt like a journey through Hobbiton. Captured beautifully by Emily Sawchuck Photography, the celebration was filled with love, gratitude, and a deep connection to nature.
A love story built on adventure
Olivia and Cameron’s story began with a near-miss—both in love and technology. Cam had just activated a dating app when Olivia was logging in to delete hers. They connected over their mutual love of The Lord of the Rings, and their first date turned into a marathon conversation at a café in Rochester, New York. They talked for so long that the staff had to ask them to leave.
Their relationship faced an early challenge when the pandemic forced them to return to their respective hometowns, but rather than drifting apart, they grew stronger. Eventually, they took a leap and moved in together in Massachusetts.
A proposal worthy of an epic tale
Cameron’s proposal was nothing short of cinematic. After spending a summer apart while Olivia pursued her dream of living in Utah, Cameron built a motorcycle from scratch and rode it 2,000 miles to reunite with her. His proposal came in two parts—first during a private moment on a cliffside at Zion National Park, and then again with a ring and a photographer in the Wasatch Mountains. Both moments were unforgettable.
Choosing a Caswell Farm wedding in Maine
After a three-year engagement, Olivia and Cameron knew they wanted a venue surrounded by trees and nature. Caswell Farm was the perfect choice, offering a historic barn, a farm-to-table experience, and a strong commitment to sustainability. They fell in love with the venue’s deep care for the land, making it the ideal setting for their Caswell Farm wedding in Maine.
A Tolkien-inspired wedding vision
Their wedding was designed to feel like strolling through Hobbiton. They incorporated fresh farm-to-table food, Celtic and tavern-inspired music, and even encouraged guests to dress in “Fantasy Flair Optional” attire—whimsical dresses, elven cloaks, tweed vests, and more. Their color palette drew from muted primaries, featuring navy, cabernet, and gold.
Facing a hurricane with grace
Their wedding day coincided with Maine’s first hurricane in 30 years, but Olivia and Cameron took it in stride. The worst of the storm passed before the ceremony, and despite one fallen tree, they were able to keep their ceremony and lawn games outdoors. It was a reminder that things don’t always go as planned, but those moments often make the best stories.
Unique wedding highlights
One of the most memorable moments of the day was the bridal party entrance. Olivia’s dad and uncle, both percussionists, spent the summer composing a drum sequence for the wedding party to enter the barn. The guests were completely surprised, and the drums transitioned seamlessly into the couple’s first dance song, “Dig Down” by Muse.
The wedding planning process was also a family affair. Olivia’s mom grew most of the flowers, and during wedding week, their friends and family came together to hand-make all the bouquets and boutonnieres. Seeing it all come together was an incredibly meaningful experience.
Wedding planning advice from Olivia and Cameron
Their biggest advice for couples planning a wedding is to embrace the unexpected. Some things won’t go as planned, and that’s okay. Those moments often become the most memorable parts of the day.
They also encourage couples to focus on what matters most and not to be afraid to ask for help. Weddings are about love and community, and leaning on family and friends makes the experience even more special.
